camper special ?

Guys I just got back from the salvage yard looking for some parts for my c30. Ran into a 4door dually camper special, the truck has good potenial for a project. While looking it over I noticed a set of shocks tieing the bed to the cab, appears to be factory by the cuts and brackets. The brackets hook into the bedside, shocks stem thru the bed front and ties into a bracket on the back of the cab tied into the door post. Anyone know what purpose these are for?

Re: camper special ?

Originally RPO Z83 ......deluxe camper group....includes camper tie down mounts in box sides;the shocks you noted;mount plates on the top of front fenders plus the Z81 reular camper special equipment.
The special bars and tiedowns that hooked to the camper were shipped loose and are hard to find now.

You also got a rear sway bar on the single wheel 2wd trucks (it was standard on the dually 2wd pickups)....as far as I know Z83 was the only way to get a rear sway bar on a single wheel truck

Re: camper special ?

Yea, my buddy has the same truck in a 1984 GMC, 2500 2WD, SRD. (He tells me) It is equipped as a 1-ton with brakes & suspension but it is badge as a 2500 Camper Special.

Anyone Know; Is this how they were set up ?

Re: camper special ?

People can put whatever parts from a 1 ton on their truck as they please. It still will not be a 1 ton truck. The 30 series trucks have a bigger frame. If GM built it as a 1 ton, it will have the "3" in the serial number.

Another pic of a bed/cab shock.

Re: camper special ?
