235 engine serial number?

My engine code stamped says 0i075 96 F56Y i was told its is the original 235 for my 3100 truck , the truck was a military truck , side casted number is 3837004 also has the 848 head 3836848 but i searched a few engine code sites and come up with a 235 powerglide motor 140hp , i know my truck was not a power glide , anyone can help and most numbers dont have 0i0 usually 010 and i double checked make sure its a capitol i not a 1 any help thank you bottom says con4 L195 GM3

I came up with Flint 1956 auto with powerglide (F 56 Y)
56 Corvette is FG or FK depending on transmission which are v8.
55 and earlier Corvettes with 6's had code YG

thanks for the info now im gonna have to find me some 10.1 pistons , i allready have a old fenton not a remake , and carbs , that was sitting on shelf , im trying to find info on cams as well , building a 235 is not cheap , ,,

Hydraulic lifters were used on powerglides auto trans and are good motors same to 1962. I was going to go with a 235 also but after I check on how much everything cost it was cheaper to go with V-8. Lose the tranny and put a turbo 350 or better yet put a 700R4 behind it, Patricks or Chev's of the 40's have adapters. Here is some good read on 235's.

This block 3837004 Chevrolet was used in 55-57 and could be 235-261

Just because the block was used with a PG doesn't mean it was never used for any other truck or car. It means it had a block modified for Hydraulic lifters.
F = Flint 56 =year Y = w/PG. So you have a 56 hydraulic lifter 235.

The significance of this block is that only P/G engines were drilled for hydraulic lifters prior to 58. 58 and after were all drilled for hyd. lifters. Its a hard to find block if your doing a number match resto. The block mounts changed in 58 and again in 60 so you can't use them for a 56 rebuild.

Unless you owned the truck for its entire life there is no way of knowing if its original. For some reason everyone thinks if its a 235 in there it must be original. The failure rate on these was very high. No oil filters and next to no air filters made for changing motor often.
