Ignition/Door Lock Keys ??

I have a 71 that has different keys for ignition and door locks. I would like to have them re-keyed to be same key for both but locksmith told me the lock cylinders and ignition keys have different key ways. Is this how they came from the factory in 71?

On my 69 I was able to have the door locks keyed to the same key used for the ignition.

Re: Ignition/Door Lock Keys ??

I bought new keyed-alike cylinders for mine. They are available.

Re: Ignition/Door Lock Keys ??

I bought a matched set from Classic Parts, cheap and super easy to install. Its nice to have only one key on my chain.

From the factory all locks were keyed alike. If someone changed the ignition or door locks they could have a different keyway. Will your ignition key slide into the door locks? If so they can be keyed to match the ignition, if not they can't.

No to both ?'s on the keys/locks. On our trucks, I was not sure if from factory there were 2 keys, square head for ignition and round key for doors like they did with cars. I am going to pick up a new set of locks for all, probably get a matched glove box lock also while I am at it. Thanks for the replies!

The two key system started with the '73 models on trucks...
