Clutch fan question
I had the fan off of my 72 today and noticed for the first time a (wind-up)spring on the front of the clutch. What is this for?
There are small metal tabs on each side, one with a slot that appears to be for the end of the spring. I wound it a couple turns and locked it in the slot, but didn't notice any difference when I turned the fan.

Re: Clutch fan question
It's part of the thermostatic control to engage the clutch.

Re: Clutch fan question
Bi-metal spring that works much like the older Honeywell home heating thermostats.
