Manual Tranmission install question

It's been awhile since I posted anything up on here. Just changed jobs so, I have been busy getting acclimtaed to a new way of doing things. I tried to install my tranmission this morning (with and without the crossmember installed).

If it wasn't for that f'ing e - brake cable, it would have gone it. Would you recommend pulled the motor out and install the tranny or, unhook the e-brake cable and jack it into place from underneath?

It took me about (3) hours to re-install the factpry crossmember before I dropped the motor in earlier this year. I am thinking about using an aftermarket crossmember for ease of use and for my dual exhaust. Any ideas?

Sawpping in a manual tranmission has been no easy task thus far..............

Re: Manual Tranmission install question

Did you bolt the bellhousing to the block, then just install the trans? I would think removing the e-brake would be easier than pulling the engine. Is the clutch disc lined up with the pilot hole?

are you using the right bell? or adapter?

just shove it in there... I don't know why the cable is in the way? mine wasn't.. I also made up my own cross member, as the factory one is stupid.. and i didn't want to put it back in.

Re: Manual Tranmission install question

My issue is the space. The bellhousing ( # 460468 w/ index reducer bearing to shrink the 5 1/8" opening to 4 11/16") is attached to the motor. With the crossmember installed as well as the e-brake cable, I had no room to move the tranny into place laying on my back on the garage floor. I may just take the advice and remove the e-brake cable and tray and jack it into place. This is going to be much easier than taking the whole front clip off as well as the headers to pull the motor..........

Re: Manual Tranmission install question

I put a 4spd Saggy out of a Vega in mine w/o removing the crossmember, with the clutch & Bellhsng installed. Was about 1" too long from going in... so I yanked the distributor, the engine came further down, and she slid right in.
