65 & 66 wood be conversion to metal bed

no not realy looking for that look, I seen somewhere and cant remember where, that someone had used a later model year bed to convert the wood bed, it was pretty nice. I wanted to see if anyone had any info on that.

I just completed my '66 sbss in October '11. Had purchased a wood bed with all stainless goodies, but decided at last minute I wanted a different look. Had a 2003 8', fleetside Silverado bed left over from an earlier project, so I cut it out mostly using a sawzall from Harbor Frt. Removed wood bed and cut all holes--yes, even squared up many of them for shoulder bolts--to fit the now 1-pc sheet metal floor. Bolted in, using chrome bolts for vertical sides and plain steel for others. Then had all done in something like Rhino-Line, but supposedly much thicker and stronger. Labor cost was greater than installing a wood kit (plus cost of steel floor if you don't have one lying around!), but I personally like the different look, plus it is more durable at least weatherwise, as water simply does not hurt it. & not too computer-literate; however you get the idea.

Keep an eye on craigslist for totaled trucks getting parted out if you are looking for a cheap bed, I got mine for $50 the bed floor was perfect but the fenders that I didn't need were beat to heck.
