What is it about paint / auto body in general that smells so good?

I love the smell of auto paint.. Am I crazy?

Maybe it's the smell of progress??

I absolutely love the smell of body work, from the smell of ground up steel to the fine scent of polishing compound! My favorite is the awesome aroma of freshly sprayed urethane! When my wife was pregnant with my third daughter she loved the smell of gasoline. I never caught her huffing any but she loved it when I filled the gas tank!

When I had my body shop people ask how do you stand that awful smell? My response was it smells like money to me.

Re: What is it about paint / auto body in general that smells so good?

When my children [son 22 and daughter now 20] were kids they would come to the shop after school and mix up body filler and spread over dents that I let them make in old panels not gonna be reused. Both of them loved the smell of body filler and my girl loves the primer smell as well.
