Re: 1965 correct V8 engine color

I have an original unpainted motor but haven't got to the point yet where it needs to be repainted. I am going to take a valve cover in and get a match but it won't be for a little while as my frame is still going together. I am sure someone here has the match though.

Two colors for the pickup V8's. The 283 is that mid to dark gray color just like that suburban drivetrain listed from Ronkatonka in the parts section. I had the paint store mix and match that color back 10 years ago for my 66 283 but do not have the # anymore. The 327 engine used the Detroit diesel color green and you can find that in engine color spray cans almost anywhere.

since the 283 was the V8 offered in 1965 then i will be looking for that gray color you are talking about. isn't blueish gray?

The motor in my '65 is blue. Been told it is most likely not original. I really have no idea. Sorry that I'm no help.
