Dynamic EFI/EBL Flash
So I am looking for better ways to fix/tune my tbi 454. I have swapped the ecu out with my other 2, and have the same issues with stumbling off idle and through the midrange. After about 2500rpm or after shifting into 2nd gear, the engine smooths out and runs decent. I was going to go with a Prom chip, but the more I research it looks like the dynamic efi is a pretty good way to go. I am not looking for crazy hp or anything. Just more reliability and a better tune for the engine. I would also like to go back to a coil in cap distributor if possible. I think I remember seeing that setup on another guys truck, but I am a little foggy on that one.

Re: Dynamic EFI/EBL Flash
Make sure everything mechanical is good before you start looking at the ECU.
85-86 TPI Camaros came with the coil-in-cap EFI distributor. I'm using one for my truck because I had it lying around, I would rather the newer style distributor. |

Re: Dynamic EFI/EBL Flash
Thanks for the suggestion. I have gone through the engine pretty completely. The compression checks good, new cam, re-machined and magnafluxed heads. New guides, seats, and seals. New gaskets throughout. New AC Delco distributor, new MSD Blaster coil, new AC Delco ignition module. New plugs and wires, new fuel pressure spring and diaphragm. Also, 2 new AC Delco EP386 fuel pumps.
I am going to go ahead and put an Aeromotive 13301 regulator on the fuel system. That will allow me to better set my fuel pressure. The cam is the Edelbrock 2162 with the matching set of springs and lifters. If I unplug the computer, it runs good. Way rich, but it doesn't stumble through the mid and low range. I am just wondering if all I have done to the valvetrain was enough to need a new tune. I have never had good luck with chips, so I am looking for a better way to do it. |

Re: Dynamic EFI/EBL Flash
Ok, you changed the cam. At this point, I would suggest a tune.
Now, I've heard many good things about the EBL system. I did things the old school way and am using a Moates Ostrich to tune the stock computer. I would suggest searching the web to figure out which system works for you. EBL is great for a plug in ready to go solution, if you sent in your ECM for Rob to modify for you. Using prom chips or an emulator with the stock computer is more DIY, requires some soldering or the adapter from Moates. |

Thanks, I will check into the Moates system for a comparison.

Re: Dynamic EFI/EBL Flash
Did you have any difficulty setting it up? I realize it won't be as easy as an OBD2 vehicle, just trying to get a feel for your experience with it. Thanks for the info.
