New member new project.

Heya,

I recently bought a 68 step side project that's basically in pieces at the moment, and stumbled across these boards whilst searching for some info. There seems to be a ton info floating around here, and some really cool rides.

I'm not new to old cars and trucks, but I've never owned this particular generation of Chevy truck. I'll probably be hitting you guys and gals with a lot of stupid questions you've heard a million times. Sorry in advance for that, and thanks in advance for your responses.

from the Heart of Arkansas!

There are some folks on here who are absolutely the best at offering the right advice. Just remember to include enough info to enable them to assist you. I also have a truck that is disassembled.

But, like the earlier post that said they needed pix....that's the way this works.

Re: New member new project.

Cool thanks guys! I'll post pic ASAP, though they will just be of a vaguely truck shaped pile of parts.

It started as two truck really. I bought a decent cab and frame, and then a parts truck that had a good bed and front end but very rough cab. I salvaged the bed , front end, all glass v8 mounts (good cab had a 6 originally) clutch pedal set up, and the mid corner with a gas cap I may weld in later. The po took out the cab tank and bonded over the cap hole. He did this before even attempting to mount any other work of gas tank anywhere else by the way .

So far I've installed the motor, and I'm currently working on fixing the butchered wiring. That said ill get pic as soon as I can.

Re: New member new project.

Welcome from Oregon! Stepsides are pretty fun to work on actually. I had one that I worked on all last summer with my son. It was very easy to take the bed apart and clean things up one piece at a time. And depending on the look you are going for, they don't have to be perfect. To me, they look very utilitarian (even though logically the bigger bed is more useful) so you can get away with imperfections a little bit more. Make sure to watch the parts for sale page as well. You can get some great deals from fellow members. Have fun with the build, and do it YOUR way (whatever that may be)!
