Craigslist 1972 Blazer
So I have been wanting to start a blazer project for a while and 1 just came up on craigslist near where I live. I have an idea on how much parts will cost and have a good idea of what I'm willing to pay for a blazer in this condition. Can you guys take a look and give me your opinion?

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I just got off the phone with the guy selling it. He said the price is negotiable. I told him I noticed in the pictures that the inner fenders on the rear are rusted through - he said "the carpet is about the only thing left of the rear floor." Is the rear bed/floor replacement pan available new? He also said that as far as he knows the only thing missing is the rear seat.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
Wait for a better one. Lots of parts are not available new for blazers. If rust has got a hold of it where you can see it that bad in the pics then underneath will be a nightmare. Not sure if you could use a truck bed floor or not.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
This one would be a HUGE project. That's not to say it hasn't been done before; there are some very nice Blazers on here that started as total rust buckets. But I don't think it's worth anywhere near $2500, and you need to be prepared to do a LOT of work on this one.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I would stay clear of that one as well. There are better prospects out there that don't need near as much work. This one could truly break the bank.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
Looks like every piece of sheet metal needs to be replaced. I'd bet the windshield frame is shot too and those are getting very difficult to find. I'd look for something in better condition. Mechanical is cheaper to fix than rust.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I wouldn't do it.
Way too much rust on that one (especially if the floor is gone). You will be double that amount for rust repairs alone (time and patch panels). If you would like to learn a LOT of new curse words - you can buy that one. |

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
Remember...Rust is normally much more expensive to repair than mechanical issues. Just a thought ...
Good Luck

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
Jeez, there is not much left of that one. To me, $800-$1000 tops, and that's just for parts. I would bet that for the amount of rust the body shows, there is significant rust on the frame as well. Keep shopping.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I read the original post and checked out the craigslist ad, but haven't read the rest of the replies as I don't want them to influence my repsonse.
That Blazer is not restorable (not a wise financial decision anyway). You would be huge money ahead to spend a little more and find a more solid Blazer. IMO that Blazer is worth $1000 max, and that is parts only. I honestly am not sure there would be any original body part left on that Blazer when/if someone does restore it.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
Holy cow that's a major cancer project. Cost more to bring that one back than it's worth.
You need to come West of the Mississippi and grab a solid foundation to start with. Too many solid ones out here at reasonable prices to resort to starting on a project that horrifying |

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I think i threw up a little thinking about all the welding wire and shielding gas it would take to fix that.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I wouldn't even pay for that one. Maybe a couple hundred if it had parts I needed.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I concur, that thing is rough. If you can get it for $500 you can start with a rolling chassis and go from there. Keep looking you will find one.

Re: Craigslist 1972 Blazer
I think it's worth a $1,000 anyway. If those front seats are original and rebuilt and recovered like they look from the back then a grand is a good deal. Grill looks nice also. I don't think I would rebuild the body!
