I am having trouble finding a 4x4 shortbed frame 60-66 have found one and set up a time twice and he never answers phone when it comes time to meet up and its 2 hours away so i am not just going to drive and hope he is around but I have found a few 67-72 shortbed 4x4 frames here lately and if they are the same i will get one hope someone has dealt with this before

They are not exactly the same, but they are very close and can be modified to work. The '67-'72 frames are much better to use than the '73-'87 frames IMO.

what would be needed to be modified? Are the 4x4 and 4x2 the same?

Also looking for that information for a friend. Considering a 67 body going on a 66 frame.

Re: 60-66 shortbed frame question?

I currently have my 65 on a 87 blazer frame and i dont like how it turned out with the rise in the frame on the blazer at the back the bed had to be way high and so did the cab it had to sit off the frame like 6" the cab did and the bed is way higher could of made the bed inside shorter but dont like that look so maybe a shortbed or longbed frame of that era may not be so bad but would have to cut to the right length of 115" wheel base and now i have bought a 63 GMC frame that when got it home found rusted apart behind the rear shackles and my 66 2wd frame is rusted and pitted where the coil spring mounts are so now I am back to square one

Re: 60-66 shortbed frame question?

The '67-'72 frames as compared to the '63-'66 frames, of course the front frame horns are different. Also the rear cab mount brackets are different, and I believe the core support bracket needs to be moved. Also the radiator crossmember found on the '63-'66 frames is not present on the '67-'72 frame.

As for the 4x4 vs 4x2 frame differences, there are some more there. I'm not sure on the short wheelbase frames, but on the long wheelbase frames, the frame under the cab is taller. The 4x4 frame has a different core support along with the front spring shackle. The 4x4 frame has provisions for the rear shackle of the front spring, whereas the 4x2 frame does not. The 4x4 frame does not have the flare out in the rear where the coil spring mounts in the 4x2. There may be some more that I can not think of at the moment. However, it is possible to convert a 4x2 frame to a 4x4.
