Re: tilt bed floor
I tilted my whole bed.
You can see what I did on page 17 and then on page 26 of my build thread. There's a link in my sig. It was pretty simple to do and I would think doing the floor only wouldn't be to bad. Kim |

Re: tilt bed floor
You could just build the floor with a separate subframe that was hinged so it lifted up with some mini van rear hatch struts or you lifted it up by hand and used a prop rod.

Re: tilt bed floor
Hey Mate,
That's exactly what i did to my bed. I wanted to show the frame off and hide the fuel filler. Here is a a video of it working and if you wanna see some pictures go to http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=480363&page=4

Re: tilt bed floor
i ran into a guy cruising out of dallas with a tilt board system to hide his fuel filler, he hated it.
every time he needed fuel he would have to roll back his tonneou cover and unload half of his bed to fuel. granted it was only luggage, lawn chairs and coolers, but he was ready to cut a hole in the bed. if you only cruise local it might be a good idea, but i do a lot of long cruising in mine. 12,000 miles in 2 summers including 2 power tours with 2 guys stuff in back, i'd hate to unload every time i fuel.

Re: tilt bed floor
Instead of a tilt, get one of the big drawer slides like they use in the cargo bay of RVs, then the whole bed could slide back to access everything. lol.

Re: tilt bed floor
very nice fat56!
i thought about if i had a load and had to fill gas but for the most part i never leave anything in the bed and if anything i'll just have to fill up before carrying anything haha Last edited by lonelywanderer; 09-25-2012 at 08:19 AM. |

Re: tilt bed floor
Yea mate. They are electric Actuators each lift 60kg, don't know what that is in pounds hah. I wont be carrying anything in the back.
Plus i got a 60l tank so should last, well i hope with a 383.

Re: tilt bed floor
fat56, Wouldn't the front bed panel hit the back of the cab?
I have seen them hinged in the back and lift from the front of the bed because of cab clearance. Whoops. I saw on your build thread the floor raises rather than the entire bed... Last edited by dapolice1; 10-21-2012 at 07:25 PM. |

Re: tilt bed floor
The setup that Fat56 posted is almost exactly what I was thinking of. As Ogre said it might not be the most practical for those of us who are inclined to do extended road trips and carry luggage, cooler and lawn chairs in the bed. I've already got an extended trip planned for the 48 when it's finished and I don't really want to unload the truck every 3 or 400 miles to reach the gas tank filler.

Re: tilt bed floor
If thats the only prob fellas, then just make a nice flush pop out fuel filler somewhere on the sheet metal so you don't have to open that back to fuel up.

Re: tilt bed floor
Any flush motorcycle tank fillers will work fine.
