Tail light goes out when brakes are applied?
Alright I have a 1986 Chevy k10 stepside that has a small issue. When my lights are on and I hit the brakes the drivers side tail light goes out completely.any other time I hit the brakes both brake lights work. How do I fix something like this? What causes this problem? Also I have no reverse lights either.

Make sure you have a dual filliment bulb in place.check the grounds for the tail/brake lights.reverse is separate from everything else.sounds like a ground issue

I agree, check your grounds. That would be the first thing I would check.

Re: Tail light goes out when brakes are applied?
see thats the thing the only ground i know of is the one right behind the tail light, other than that i can't seem to follow where else the tail light is wired to or if there may be a ground on the frame somewhere.

Re: Tail light goes out when brakes are applied?
You found the ground for everything but the plate lamps. This ground causes the symptoms you describe. Both my trucks have a wire to the frame with ring terminals soldered to both ends... installed by me.
Make sure the taillamps are 1157 dual filament bulbs. I've seen single filaments forced into the dual sockets.
