60-66 early take-off tailgate
60-66 tailgate with original 1966 only saddle paint and NO DENTS. Factory paint is a little boogered from early use and because it was poorly applied to begin with. The finish is not quite patina'd, but I think it's beyond polish. Anyway, they don't get any straighter than this.
Local pick up $450. Sent to you within the conUS in a cardboard box (not recommended) $525, or in a plywood crate for $600 Reply here first if interested. Thanks - BP Last edited by oem4me; 09-25-2012 at 03:52 PM. |

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
Beautiful tailgate, and I'd be all over it if Goldilocks needed one. Saddle Poly is an odd color in original paint- as you said it wasn't the best finish even when new. Nice to see those pics, original Saddle Poly pics are hard to find! Nice reference for anyone trying to duplicate the original look of the paint.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
This may be that gate. It was on ebay and CL at the same time. When I bought it I had every intention of keeping it just in case I ever needed it. I'm kind of fanatic about perfect parts, and this one qualifies. But things change and landlords raise rents on storage units, so up for sale it goes. I know someday I'll regret letting it go.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
The saddle one is long gone. I do have a nice, straight white take-off that I'd sell though.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
$375 plus shipping for the white one. Yes, it's factory paint. It has some scratches but I don't think any dents. I can take a closer look when I get over to my storage unit.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
Wow if someone needed a white tailgate for their survivor paint truck you couldn't ever find one that nice and for that money. That take off saddle metallic tailgate is what GM painted all their trucks like in the 60's. I'm betting the painters at the factory had experience problems with keeping the metallic flakes stirred continuously and flowing out uniform. Take a little uniformity of pattern and cross pattern to make the metallic blend out right. Seems like so many of those original paint 1966 saddle metallic paint was either panel to panel blotchy or or the metal flake itself was chunky and made the color run away from the flake on the panel. Was an interesting time in what people would accept for quality in a new pickup truck in those years.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
[QUOTE=60-66;7021896]And I do need it for my 65 K10 that Ive owned 23 years now.
That 65' K10 looks out of place amongst your other trucks...you better let me take it off your hands for you so you don't have to worry about those pesky tailgate issues any more...23 years is enough to have to worry about getting a take-off tailgate for that thing. jon

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
OMG....... Jon you gotta quit buying these beautiful survivor trucks and then have to find the matching original paint tailgate. Start with the tailgate and look for the right color truck! I hope this white tailgate is remaining with 50 year old factory applied white and if not I sure hope something can get worked out here. Just saying.

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
Anyone for pickles? Lol. I'm thinking..... there might be a way to satisfy a few of us here.
Yote - you gonna repaint? I have another equally straight gate. 60-66 - I may have already asked, got any spare 64-66 light blue gates? Last edited by oem4me; 01-27-2015 at 09:53 PM. |

Re: 60-66 early take-off tailgate
I wish, it would be on its way to California ! Dark blue, light green and red but no light blue.
