Transmission questions

I have a 77 swb 4x4 with 355 sbc and a th350 with a np 203 transfer case.
The transmission thats in it is slipping, I was wondering what trans types I can use when I replace it and What Years will fit. TH 350 (obviously),TH 400, 700r4 etc. and adapters if needed....... I also wondered about switching case types so I can get 2wd instead of full time 4x4. Is it worth it, or better to just get a tc kit and lock out hubs. I know there was a good write up on here about installing the mile marker kit, i think it was mile marker. If anyone has the link to that I would appreciate it. Thanks, Roy
