Re: drw to srw back to drw

The cheapest would be to sell the extra parts you have since they are much much much more in demand than a dually bed or dually rear axle which you would have left over after the swap.

Plus the swap always has additional costs associated beyond having a bed and axle. Stuff breaks when unbolting. Brakes need to be bled, may need freshening, etc.

If you're thinking gas mileage is going to drastically improve going from dually to srw then you are mistaken. Might save a fraction of a gallon per tank, if that, under the best of circumstances.

If you are running SRW then you only buy 2 rear tires rather than 4 every 60-80,000 miles, again, were talking $200 every 3-5 years depending how much you drive.

Convert to single rear axle if you want it, but don't do it to save money because you won't save enough for it to matter and/or be worth the cost and effort.

Re: drw to srw back to drw

I'd leave it dually but not for any other reason than I like 'em.
I have an '85, in the same boat. Leaving it dually, looking for a D60 for the front. Few and far between and way high priced when I find one. Might be a while!

If you aren't wanting to buy 16.5" tires, just look on your local CL or ebay for a set of 16 inch dually wheels and tires. If you are careful you can come out with a decent set of tires and wheels for the same cost of a set of new tires.

I'd just leave it dually, don't go through the hassle of converting it twice.

Re: drw to srw back to drw

^ what wyattglock said for sure. Plenty of 16" dually rims show up on craiglist all the time and I can have 'em sandblasted and powder coated for about $20/rim. 16" tires are fairly common, too. The good load rated ones for 1-tons aren't snatched up nearly as fast as the 17" and up, makes for better deals.

Re: drw to srw back to drw

I would stick with the dually myself, like others have said get some used 16" rims.
Couldn't you just run a single dually rim on each side in the back (just the outboard wheel and tire) to save on having to buy 6 tires.
Might look a little odd though.

Re: drw to srw back to drw

the other thing is i love the look of these trucks with about 6-8" lift with old school welds 16.5x14s or 12 wides with 33-35"x14.50 boggers or tsls.

but then again i wanna straight axle it with a 8-10" lift with 37x12.50 millatary tires with a 12v cummins and a 8" stack

i could run a single wheel since i have a set but then id have dually fender still and i have a extra srw bed in ok shape so i could slap it on

Re: drw to srw back to drw

what would look better either way its getting converted to 4x4.

either 8-10" lift with 37x12.50 millatary tires kept a dually

or convert to srw lifted 6-8" with 16.5x14 welds with 33x14.50 or 35x15.50 boggers or tsls
