72 door panels

Anyone know a good product to use to remove old paint? Im trying to sand down doors to make smooth instead of the wrinkle appearance. Or a good primer that'd fill in left over wrinkles?

On my 72, the plastic panels had been painted over,, I used lacquer thinner and scotch brite.
It cleaned them up very well. Then I used Krylon Fusion paint ,,, pretty happy with the end result !

Do you still have the wrinkled look on yours?

I've used brake fluid. It dissolves the paint pretty well and won't damage the plastic. Gotta let it soak a while though.

Yes, the wrinkle is still there. I'm not real sure how you would do away with it short of sanding it off ,, or stacking primer to fill it.

Hope it works out for you !!

Re: 72 door panels

If you want to smooth the grain out of the panels then just sand the paint off. You're going to have to sand the grain off anyway.
