Can you remove the top layer of paint to expose the original?
My truck was painted brown a long long time ago and the original green is showing through nicely in a few spots. Is there anyway to remove the brown paint to expose the original again without making the original look bad?

I've had good luck using oven cleaner and a plastic scraper.

No pictures. I use the cheapest stuff i can find. Spray a small spot let it sit for a minute then scrap the pant off with a bondo spreader. then srub it with a white or green scotch brite pad. I've also used synthetic reducer. It will leave the harder factory pant alone and take the top layer off.

I'm also thinking about doing something similar. The PO had his buddy spray (I should say OVERspray) my '69 with a pretty nasty silver-metallic, which was then over sanded (leaving nasty dusty-looking spots here and there). I can see spots of original orange, and would like to see how she should look.
I'll be watching this thread for some more advice! |

This had 2 layers of yellow over. Good ol wet sanding I feel is the best way.

That all sounds fine but hopefully you dont find that one fender has been all coated in Bondo or something just before it was painted... I'd maybe take a magnet to the car first and make sure they didnt paint it to hide damage. Maybe they painted it for a reason.

I tried to sand down to my original paint, I think someone sanded it back in the day before they painted it the rad purple color it was when I got it. The original paint was so thin as soon as I could see it, i was through it, so be careful.
