The Leaf Spring Connectors on Frame

Hello all, my 49 frame leaf spring connectors are worn where the threads are gone and on some are oval now. Is there something to be done other then drilling out the rivits and replacing them?

That's about it as far as I know. I think the ones on my frame are good if you end up needing them. All it will cost is the price of shipping but I'd have to look at them and make sure they are ok. They are either going in the someone might need them box or the scrap pile when I take them off the frame.

Oops I thought you were talking about the front ones. I already pulled the rear ones off and sent them to someone else on here a couple of months ago. The front ones I still have though.

Thats worn beyond the bushing.

I'm either running Dodge Mini van springs brackets and all or robbing the truck bars out from under my trailer. I've got some heavy duty trailer springs to take care of that if I do that. It's just a dump runner trailer anyhow made out of the frame of a 70 that I rolled 22 years ago.

I have the new connector and would like to ask how you guys have connected these new ones to the frame once the old ones were ground off? I was thinking of bolts with a spot weld on the nuts but would rather do it the right way.

I wouldn't weld on the bracket it's self. You could hit the end of the threads with a hammer to keep the nut from ever backing off but I don't think that is a real necessity. I would try to find some that fit tight in the holes though and you may need to drill the holes out to put in a bolt that is slightly larger than the rivets were.

The smallest frame bolt in the link from dwcsr is 1/2 dia by 1-1/4 long which is too large and too long I am thinking. Ideally the smooth shank of the bolt would just go through the bracket and frame and you would use a washer on the inside of the frame to finish things off so you could tighten the nut up all the way. That would give you a connection that wouldn't move around on you.

I had to replace one and just used Grade 8 fasters with washer, lock washer and double nut. G8 can take a lot of torque, they are stronger and will actually pull the bolt head thru the softer frame metal (did that when I installed my transmission support the first time).

OK all, I got the 2 REAR REAR leaf spring hangers off by using a grinder with a cut wheel and cutting an X into the head of the rivet then cold chisel them off. Knocked the rivets right out with a 5lb hammer. I have one replcement from focusedontheprise. Does anyone have another rear rear hanger like the one in the picture I could purchase? The part number is 593926.
