Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

Hey folks, I like to ride on wide meaty tires. (Shut up, don't judge me). Now if you folks would be as kind to share some of your wheel and tire combos with pictures and/or measurements I would be much abliged. Now keep in mind, this is just for daily street use. Please include backspacing and offset. Thanks folks.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

I'm a obvious fan of "big & little". 235/60-15 on 15x6 (front) - 255/70-15 on 15x8 (rear).

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

No pics, but some run a 255/70/15 front, 285/70/15 rear tire on 8" wheels.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

Most 8" rally wheels come standard with 4.25" backspacing. Most off-the-shelf aftermarket 15x8 wheels will have 3.75" backspace. Anywhere in that range will work fine on stock to mild dropped trucks.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

Thanx 68 step. I'm thinking about doing around 10 or maybe 12. I just love sitting wide and low.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

Don't use wimpy little tires or wimpy little rims.
Get these!!!
Rims 14" wide. Backspace 5".
Tires 18.50 x 29 x 15.
Now that's a meaty tire.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

You got that right! This is what the wife want me to put on the rear of my 69,, thinking about widing the rear wheel wells a few inches just to get some big fat meats under it without doing any frame work.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

My neighbor had these 10" wheels on his truck until lately. I don't know what size tires or anything else, but they fit on a '68 shortbed with 4/6 drop.He has then and wants to sell them if you like them:

That's kind of like what I have now. I brought the wheels when I got the truck. Doesn't have much backspace at all though. Think it may be putting stress on my truck.

Re: Now I've got a WHEEL issue.

How much backspace do they have? The only way 10" wheels will fit under the body like that is with normal backspace. Yes,I said "normal" backspace. Until recent years with all these oddball huge diameter wheels and tires, when wheel diameter was standardized, backspace or type of vehicle for application was not even a question asked when buying wheels. It was a nominal 4"...give or take a fraction. You would not be able to run 10" wheels with any more backspace than what is on the wheels I've shown. All 10" wheels will be "deep dish". Yes,"all" wide tire/wheel combos (esp over 8" wheels) will put more stress on suspension parts

But is it neccesarily a bad thing? I'm referring to wheels wider than 8 inches. Is it someway I can have a wide wheel without it being so damaging? Is there a backspace to offset rule?
