Incorrect fuel level

Hey, guy’s. Lookin for a little help here. My truck keeps running out of fuel/ sputtering when I’ve only used ten gallons of gas, and she really falls on her face when I get on it. My sending unit looks a little short for the tank, but I kinda figured it was correct seeing as the gauge level still reads a little over a quarter tank while this is happening. The previous owner had installed this unit new before I bought the truck, so i can't say for sure that's its the right part. Does anybody know the correct length of the sending unit?

Only other thought I had was maybe to try and attach some hose to it so it can really get down in there. I’d prefer just using the correct length unit though.

Re: Incorrect fuel level

I would just insert a steel tape measure into the hole and note the depth of the tank then measure the sender height and if it is too short then get the right one. WLH
