Oil Filter Canister

Does anyone know the typical bypass filter canisters they installed in the second series trucks? I haven't seen any AC Delco ones up for sale, but some Fram filters. Does anyone know the Fram model that would be correct for my 59 Apache?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Oil Filter Canister

There were two that are period correct for 55-59 trucks. The Fram has a taller and narrower filter design. The AC Delco is shorter and wider. I have an AC on my truck. Both attach the same way I think.

Can you post a pic Divine? I'd love to see it on your truck.

Best picture I have is posted on the 1958 Suburban Engine Color Thread. If you can't locate it I can repost it here. Sorry, I'm being lazy

Very Nice! Mine did not have any decals. I understand they are available though. I don't know how well the decals would hold up getting oil dripped on them.

Divine, thanks for posting the pic.

Orrie- are you sure it isn't supposed to be the F4. See instructions here
Posted via Mobile Device. The F3 is only supposed to be up to 175 ci.

Re: Oil Filter Canister

Guess I learned something. My dad had a box of them he got for use on his old Chevy and Gmc sixes. Its has the same fittings so I don't know what the difference would be, maybe the size is a little smaller?

Re: Oil Filter Canister

I wonder if it would be possible to ue a remote filter kit that uses a spin-on filter, like this. Would definitely make filter changes easier. This is a complete kit but you can get just the filter mount.

Re: Oil Filter Canister

OrrieG- I saw you had your canister up for sale a while back. What was it? Was it that fram F3??
RA- you can use modern filters but there are some differences so you'd have to use a restrictive on the line so you don't starve the engine.
