Hood Heat Shield
I'm in need of a new heat shield, was thinking of using Dyno Mat (Looking product at Home Depo) etc. I've seen the products on LMC but I'm not sure that I want to purchase there product! Any Ideas please address it! Thanks!!!

Re: Hood Heat Shield
What do you mean by "hood heat shield"? Are you talking about insulation on the underside of the hood? What makes you think you need to replace it?

Re: Hood Heat Shield
It is about the same size as OEM. Only thing about running a shield,... If you blow a hose or develop a heck of an oil leak the fan picks up, it destroys it.

Re: Hood Heat Shield
That's kind of where I was heading; my truck didn't come with the underhood insulation.
In fact, none of my vehicles have the underhood insulation. Smoke Dog - I'd pull it off and not replace it if I were you. K

Re: Hood Heat Shield
My 84 K20 with a diesel has it and I can see the need to cut down on the noise.
Also has extra insulation pieces on the firewall.

Re: Hood Heat Shield
Weren't they also supposed to supress any fires? I know C5's were designed to where if a fire occured the clips would melt and the insulator would fall down on the motor, hopefully supressing any fire.

Re: Hood Heat Shield
I don't recall that being a design constraint - but - maybe I just learned something.
Although - keep in mind it was not released across the board; only for the "high end" models like Silverado, which leads me to believe it was not primarily a fire retarder. Maybe a secondary design consideration, but not primarily. K

Re: Hood Heat Shield
I did not have the insulation shield in my 73 C20 or 76 Scottsdale and they were significantly nosier than my camper special 83 C20 Silverado with the insulation. For the low $$ involved I would have one. However, when the A/C compressor sprays oil it destroys a section of the shield.

Re: Hood Heat Shield
Last weekend I sanded my hood down and flat blacked it, looked okay but with the insualtion holes and a few dings it really wasnt all that appealing to the eye so I went ahead and ordered the insualtion and clips.
Insulation came in wednesday so I installed it today after cutting it to fit.
