1962 Unibody
Made a trade with a good buddy of mine. My 71 K20 for this 62 Unibody. I'm sure most here on this board would have never made the trade, after all it is 67-72chevtrucks.com =) Well I still have my 69 panel, so I think I'm still welcome, and my buddy is now a member here and going great guns on the K20. It really is in good hands.
The 62 was a body off frame build. The frame has been professionally built. Notched in the rear. Rebuilt 9 inch, Mopar front suspension, Chevy 350/350 drivetrain. Interior has Chevy bench seat, Chevy steering column and a few aftermarket gauges and steering wheel. The wheels and tires are just rollers off of a Ford Exploder. Not positive on how the build will go yet. Haven't decided on tires and wheels for sure, but I do have some ideas whirling around in my pea brain lol. May keep the bench or put in a set of old swivel buckets I got ages ago from a board member. I may ditch the new gauges and put in older Stewart Warner's. I love the feel of the steering wheel, but I will be putting in something more 60's style. Probably going to change out the steering column too. The valve covers and air cleaner will be changed out for something more period correct too. Need to rework the fender wells and install them, man does it get dirty in there without them. The tail gate is going to need some work too. I have a couple of ideas for that. Still trying to work out the color scheme. For right now I had a friend put a coat of red primer on it so if I'm out in the rain the bare metal wont start rusting on me. What it looked like when I got it ... Some shots after the primer job ... Engine compartment ... Interior ... Kinda sparse lol

Re: 1962 Unibody
And lastly a quicky YouTube video ... Looks a little weird. YouTube said it was shaky, do I want them to fix it? So not shaky now, just weird =)

I saw several with the caps and now Im not so sure I want to go that route. Ive been pricing TT originals, and looking for vintage ones. Just no sure I want to spend real money on this truck until my panel is done. I just want to make sure its real reliable for now.

Re: 1962 Unibody
Nothing wrong with that trade at all. One of the three best looking trucks FoMoCo ever desinged. I had a 63 uni. Gave up on it due to rust. I still want another one. Post a link to the build thread if you do one.

Re: 1962 Unibody
Ill post pics here as I add stuff. The chassis and drive train are pretty much done. I do need to get some Fatman drop spindles so I can get some suspension back from having the torsion bars cranked down so low =)

Diggin' it. One of my first paint jobs was on a '62 unibody. Steelies and whitewalls would look good on there, IMO.

Re: 1962 Unibody
So not a ton of stuff going on. Ive been having some electrical issues I was hoping to bypass and put off for awhile, but no such luck. I ordered a new aftermarket harness today and hopefully it wont take too long to figure out (yeah right lol),
I had planned on getting the new tires and wheels all figured out first. Gonna have to wait to finalize that, but I did pick up the wheels today. 15x8.5 and 15x7. The goal is to have big and littles for tires ... alla 60's style. No low profile rubber bands that are popular today, and no 50's series that were popular in the 70's when I was a teen. My tire guy has a few ideas up his sleeve. I may also have to run some spacers in the rear to even things out. These are called Torq Thrust Originals or TTO's. And yes that is how you spell Torq when it comes to these wheels =)

Re: 1962 Unibody
Im not good about keeping threads going. I drove the truck around for awhile and ended up having some electrical issues and a few other things ... blah blah lol.
So basically its been parked in my shop. I finally had an idea to get me motivated and help a couple nephews earn a few bucks. They have been at it for several weeks now. Im going to be lazy though, I started a thread over on the HAMB yesterday and Ill just link to it if you want to see whats up with the truck. You may not be able to see the pics though if you aren't signed in. I know the HAMB isn't every ones cup of tea so I will find a couple of decent pics to show where we are so far. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=813551

Re: 1962 Unibody
We've been slowly plugging away on this project. Only working on it for two hours a week though its kind of slow. Plus we have taken several weekends off.
The tire shop just called. Got the tires all mounted and balanced on the TTOs and realized one tire was different ... oops. Was hoping to have it ready to drive to the swap meet. Might not now. I havent taken a lot of pictures of what we have been up to. No big cosmetic changes to see. Ill post a pic when the new rolling stock is in place.

Re: 1962 Unibody
Thanks! We got the new wheels and tires on it this weekend. In my opinion (lol) its going to look bad azz
We love the color on the front too. We also did the instrument cluster and radio grill in the same color. I didn't want bright white so we looked through a bunch of colors at Lowe's and decided on biscuit, its an appliance color lol.
