A Sour Trade!

While at the drag races this weekend a guy drove up and asked if I would trade my truck for his car. I said, "Are you Crazy?" "What is it?" LOL It was a Jaguar! No way in heck would I trade my truck for one of those ugly suckers. He said, " This is a $50,000 car." I said "Sooooooooooooooooo!" Who's crazy here?

I would have had to consider it. Your truck isn't even close to being worth that, and if you could have sold the Jag for close to 50K, you would be that far ahead.

Have you seen this truck? Money isn't everything bud. Randy has got to have WAY more than $50,000 tied up into his truck including his own time. I know that I would have only traded if I was in dire need of cash. But would have regretted it later

Dubie counting a few mistakes over the years I probably have over 30,000 in it but would never get out of it what I have in it. I do know that today I could take it to this guy and get between 20 and 25 with no questions asked. How much and how long would it take to turn a Jag for big bucks?

Yeah I've seen the pics/mag covers, and it's a nice truck, actually very nice.

You can't add your time to the price of a finished project. It will only be worth what the market is willing to pay for it...in this case $50K.

And call me morally deficient, but money is everything. If I thought that Jag would sell quickly, that truck would be history. I'd sell the Jag, and begin another truck project if that's what I really wanted.

Sorry, just giving the opinion Mudder asked for

Some of the jags are worth more than others.
To be worthy of the trade it would have to be a 1967 XK-E type matching numbers Roadster with very low miles in Excellent original condition or similiar.
The history would need to be well documented.
Here is a link to one of the preimier Jaguar restorers in the country.

Classic Jaguar

There is a section regarding price value of the E-type models.

E-type Price guide

If it is not an E-type maybe a xk120 or 150 or something then we will need to do a little more research.

Have fun

It was more of a new type car. Don't have any idea of the year because I was totally uninterested.

I think if you could have turned the Jag into cash pretty quick i would have done it.Then you could have started another project. But to just add a point you do have one of the nicest trucks around....James

I agree with you Randy!!!! Heck with the Jag, you spent way to much time getting yours to where it is today. You would always reget it if you did it. Randy

You think that's bad???

My dad thinks his '87 Ford Tempo will "someday be a classic", and considers it more valuable than my truck because it's newer. I don't bother to have debates about cars and trucks any more for these obvious reasons:

1. He sold his '67 C10 for $1000 in '86 while it was in excellent shape after he'd promised it to me once I got old enough.

2. He wrecked his '57 Chevy Bellair the week he was going to have it paid for. He didn't see any reason to fix it since it was "old", so he sold it for junk.

3. He traded his '65 Pontiac LeMans in for a '76 Pontiac Grand Prix.

4. He had a '72 VW Superbeetle with the bubble windows that's actually a collector's item now. He sold that for $800 after only owning it for a few years.

5. He thought about buying a '68 Mustang Fastback back when they were new, but decided not to because they "had too much power".

I give up with him.

It was really only 20k but after you figure in the credit card refinances, the note owed to the 401k and what he still owes on his college education, then it was 50k. Good call.

I think one would have to be out of their mind to even think of a trade like that. Here are a few things I thought of: 1) The truck looks soooooooooo much nicer then that foreign thing: whats the name of the Co?, JUNK? 2) It doesn't matter how much money it cost, Mudder can say that he built that truck piece by piece: unlike that other thing.3)At least he knows that it will keep him on the road, no problems with motor/tranny b/c he did the work, unlike that other thing that even being new will probably breakdown within a year or two. 4) I think the guy that had the car knew it was mistake buying the car in the first place! Stick with American made, and keep it a GM Truck!
