do i do a full floor replacement or patch?

hey guys i haven't posted much i have had a lot going on lately, my dad has lymphoma, and my grandma has lung cancer, and changed jobs, its been a long couple of weeks, anyways I am trying to figure out what to do with the truck this winter, me and my dad usually work on it all winter, anyways i built a huge wish list on LMC truck, that comes up to over $2500, that includes re-upholstery and rubber floor mat etc, anyways i am trying to decide if i really need to do a full floor board replacement or if i should patch it, the big concern is the doors are getting hard to close, i know i need to replace the rubber body mounts, but also the cab support channels are all but completely rotten, as far as the floor i have a hole about 4" around where the pedal used to go, and i can see some light inbetween the kick panels and the floor... If i do decide to do this i will be taking it on mostly alone, cuz my dad is too sick to do much... but i do have friends to help me do lifting etc, anyways any advice would be great.

Re: do i do a full floor replacement or patch?

i was afraid that would be the response, I am just concerned of destroying the cab in the process....

I vote for the full floor also. For the little bit of savings and tons of modifying ill fitting parts and bangin my head into the wall I wish I had done a full floor but after being half way through it is a little late for me. Save yourself the aggravation and go with the full floor. I have seen many go that route on here and they seem to be much simpler than hacking and welding 8 different pieces together, not to mention having nice (not) welded seams all over the patched floor. My 2c anyway. goodluck!

I agree. the full floor looks nice and you will know you have taken care of any rust that was in the floor. I have one in my 67 and it is nice to have.

I'm also thinking about cutting my losses and going with a full floor. Has anyone done a write-up or thread on doing the whole floor properly?

Full floor is the way to go for sure!

I did one on my wrecker project. You can see some pics of that job in my build thread here:

Full floor and you will be glad you did. Way better than trying to fit patchs in. See my threads

Re: do i do a full floor replacement or patch?

my 71 cab has been pieced and patched all over, so i dragged in a 72 cab that is rusty but has no work done to it. so i was thinking of swapping cabs and starting with a blank slate so to speak, any recommendations on a full floor and advice on installing it?

Re: do i do a full floor replacement or patch?

well the full floor board replacement is less expensive in general than buying floor sections and the floor supports... I have yet to do mine, that is coming up in the next month hopefully.. if you hang on a while I will have some info for you in my build thread..
