Oh Man! I just can't believe what just happened!

So I was strolling through the parking lot of the local library on my way to the drive-thru book drop box. You see, the wife had asked me to PLEASE take these books back because if they don't get dropped off today, we would incur a late fee!

Not wishing to deter such a simple request, and thinking this would be a perfect time to drive my "mistress" with clear, nice weather and all, I cranked her up and headed out on my latest mission.

Well, I pull into the parking lot, realizing that this long parking lot was half empty, save for those parked nearest the entrance. I made my way through the parking lot enroute to the drop box when out of the corner of my eye I see a big black SUV backing a bit too quickly out of their parking space to stop!

"Oh SH**" spewed from my mouth just as the new Tahoe's reese hitch slammed into the front right corner of Ole Greenie puncturing the radiator and making wrinkles of the grill, radiator support, and right fender. The fender impacted the door which impacted the cab behind the door.

I have NEVER displayed SO MUCH GRACE and understanding toward the driver of the Tahoe. Realizing that she had a 3 year old girl in the back seat, I began to pear inside the back rear window of her truck to see if she was OK (I'm a healthcare professional). It was then I realized that I could not see inside the Tahoe!

Anyway, things are working out due in large part to her insurance company (State Farm) who is exemplary. They have agreed to repair Ole Greenie so I should have her back in a few more weeks.

Here are a few pics:

Sometimes accidents just happen and I applaud the way you acted with the woman in the Tahoe... That's somebody's wife and child in that car. Hope she gets fixed up fast!

I certainly agree. No need to be anything other than amicable and understanding...though it did hurt a bit. Thankfully, the frame was not involved.

BTW My family and I really miss AZ. We moved here from Ft. Huachuca/Sierra Vista....SE of Tuscon.

Glad to see that nobody was hurt and the truck is getting fixed...I would of needed medical help on me if my truck was hit.....as I would of had a heart attack....

Certainly felt like it too...which is also probably why I really didn't see her until it was too late. Kind of like she still had her foot on the throttle while she released the E- Brake. Pretty strong hit for a parking lot...no doubt.

Almost seems like people don't DRIVE any more. They are vehicle OPERATORS but not DRIVERS!

Sorry about your ride! You handled this with grace. We drive our trucks so these are the risks we take. Thank you lord for LMC, good insurance and body shops!

Looking forward to seeing her all fixed up.

Re: Oh Man! I just can't believe what just happened!

Sorry about the damage to your truck. At least nobody was hurt.

I hope they get it back to before accident condition in short order.

If you are lucky they won't try to write it off as being totaled & low ball you with their value like was done with me. In 1997 my 70 K5 got T-boned by a lady running a stop sign. Total repair estimate was $2500. They wanted to total it and tried to tell me it was only worth $1200. I handed the adjuster a box full of receipts totaling more than three times their repair estimate not including the base cost of the rig along with a photo album full of proof the work was done to that vehicle. They changed their tune rather quickly and fixed the Blazer at my shop of choice.

Wow man, that hurts. Every time I drive one of my "old" trucks I think about things like this. But, why have them if you ain't gonna drive them? You were a true Southern Gentleman. Two thumbs up and keep us posted on the repairs.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but what a beautiful truck you have!!! That's some heavy damage what should be a low speed accident. I hope everything is put back good as new and you are back cruising in no time.

I do have to admit that what you described was one of my first concerns. State Farm has worked very well with me and they are a class organization. Once they were made award of the quality of the truck they really had no issues with authorizing the repair. If they had totaled it out, I would have had to buy it back! The folks at Riverfront Collision in Augusta/Evans (Denny Gardner-Owner) are just phenominal and an authorized repair facility for State Farm. So I really lucked out.
