Re: windshield lock strip

I just pushed mine in with my thumb after lubing it with silicone spray. I had a couple of small areas where I had to use a large flat blade screw driver but that was it.

Re: windshield lock strip

some soapy water goes a long way, just use a spray bottle. Wd-40 also does the trick. And as posted the tool is totally worth it, i just made my own.

Re: windshield lock strip

GREAT video!!! And for those that don't have time to watch (make time!) They put the chrome on before installation. DOH! Guess I'm pulling it back out.

You must have watched the 67-72 install. That indeed has the rigid steel chrome going into the gasket prior to putting it into the vehicle. The 73-87 lockstrip actually goes in after the gasket and glass is in the vehicle. It locks the glass into the gasket.

I have known some people to put the rubber on the glass and then install the lockstrip then rope the whole thing in BUT that is the incorrect way!

I just wanted to be sure you had the right info

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Re: windshield lock strip

I think being warm is the key, when I did mine I waited till the warmest time of the day and parked it where the sun would hit it as I was putting the windshield in.

I tried your 848 gasket. It was bagged wrong. Local glass store returned it and got me the correct gasket.
