Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

I know this has been asked a gazillion times already, but trust me...I've searched, searched, read and then read some more...got the wife asking why I'm on the computer so much this past weekend! Just not finding any solid info.

Anyways...got an '09 5.3L / 4L60E swap im doing in my 67 2wd.

I cant find some answers even with all the searching/reading I've done

1) Fuel Tank:
I plan on running a 87-90 Jeep wrangler 15 gallon tank, with an '87 blazer sending unit and EP381 fuel pump. I'll mate this up to a Corvette filter/regulator WIX #33737 since I have a single feed fuel rail on the 5.3

Does this sound right? What are you guys doing for fuel tank caps?
I have a wood bed floor in my truck so I am not against using a flush mount cap but I see they are all 1-1/2" dia while the jeep tank has a 1" fill line? Just a simple reducer?

2) Radiator:
I already have a 3 core alum radiator on my truck...I see alot of long upper hoses being used in all the pics I've seen but what about the size difference?

rad. upper is 1-1/2" dia and LS eng is 1-1/4" dia?
rad. lower is 1-3/4" and LS eng is 1-1/2" dia?
What are you doing for hoses?

Never heard of putting the blazer sending unit in the jeep tank, but if that works out, then all the rest sounds good! The radiator you have will cool fine. For hoses, most everyone uses stock upper and lower hoses off of around an 04 silverado or whatever. Some times they need trimmed. Other times they need cut in the center and shortened using a metal tube to splice it back together.

Joe,
I can't answer all of your questions but I do have the jeep tank With the blazer sending unit. The tank is nice cause it doesn't hang down too low. The sending unit fits perfect. I found classic parts of america has the cheapest. I have it mocked up but no filler yet. I plan on an in bed flush mount or marker light filler. I think a reducer is needed if you do the flush mount.

Re: Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

Thank you for all the responses...I'll be ordering the fuel system tonight!

The lower hose info is MUCH appreciated!

I was planning on buying the ECC motor swap mounts ($219) but not sure if I can use the stock 5.3 truck exhaust manifolds.....I've been reading that TrailBlazer SS are a good fit but I know enough guys here have used the stock manifolds with the "right" engine placement, minimal frame trimming.

Should I get the ECC mounts?

Maybe the 67-72 is different than 73-87 but if you pay more than $100 for mounts your crazy!

I use ece mounts and run electric fan will not work with manual fans truck manifolds will not work with ece try dirtydingo.com they are slider mounts might work with truck manifolds.i used these with ece hooker ls swap manifolds expensive but love them<a href="http://s1055.photobucket.com/albums/s501/Daaaanz67/?action=view&current=DA0809BA-E54E-47F4-962E-1FCFA71AA7EE-4467-000006A4E326A9DF.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s501/Daaaanz67/DA0809BA-E54E-47F4-962E-1FCFA71AA7EE-4467-000006A4E326A9DF.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>

Re: Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

Instead of the ECE mounts for $219, I was looking at another set of adapter plate that move the engine back 1". Like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250498171600...84.m1423.l2649

With all the reading I've been doing, sounds like some guys have used the stock manifolds with the engine installed back a little further.
Not sure if I can get away with using them with it being back 1" but I don't want to have to buy new manifolds unless I really have to, If I do....
What about these?

Re: Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

I used the ECE mounts to mount my 4.8 last night. I had truck manifolds and they hit the frame on the passenger side and were extremely close on the driver side. Looks like they could be made to work with some work. Honestly, unless I am doing something wrong, for the price of these mounts I was expecting a better fitting product.

I used these dirty dingo adjustable mounts:
http://dirtydingo.com/store/product_...oducts_id=1308
with the square body frame stands and mounts. The fit earlier models you just need to drill a hole. And I have the Trailblazer manifolds. They fit great and don't hit the frame. No trimming required.

Re: Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

Hey burlapen try leaving the stands loose with those ece mounts and slide the motor back see if the truck manifolds will work better. If it works you can always make a bracket to extend off the back of the cross member to bolt to the hole that's not touching the x member if I had to do it all over again with these mounts this is what I was going to try in order to use truck manifolds. Not trying to hack your thread just giving info on my just completed swap.

Thanks for the input. I don't think it is going to affect me because I am running the manifolds flipped upside down for a single turbo setup. I just thought I had heard truck manifolds worked with the ECE mounts. They were definitely close and i believe they could be made to work with a bit of grinding. Seems like a pain though.

Re: Soon to be one of the 5.3 crowd..but tank/radiator?

Well after doing some searching, I pulled the trigger on the S.U.R.&R. nylon fuel line kit #KP1200.

Since it's an all inclusive kit, I figured I'd give it a shot. Rated for 200 psi and includes everything needed....for $136 from Tooltopia.com

Hell, just the -6AN fitting I was going to need would have cost me more than the entire KP1200 kit!

Is there a thread somewhere showing the use of the Jeep fuel tank?

On the 87 blazer sending unit it looks like there are 2 return lines? Do you just cap the extra one off? Also do you know if the float for the fuel level sits close to the bottom in the jeep tank so the gauge reads correct? Thanks

Yes, I plan on just capping off the unused return line. The Blazer sending unit is 0-90 ohms so it will work fine with earlier fuel gauge setups.

The only thing I needed to modify on the sender was to cut the locking tabs off. They were putting the sender in the jeep tank at a location that was causing the float to hit the internal baffle of the tank. With the two tabs cut off I could turn the sender unit to center the float in the tank.

Great info! thank you.

Does anyone know what sending unit you would use in the jeep tank for a carb ls1 setup?
