Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
There is not a whole lot of information on these coilover ifs for AD chevys out there floating about the internet. Trust me i know! So i figured i would do my part and document my progress and maybe get some help and reassurance along the way. This is my first build to this extent and thus my first ifs install.
Anyways, made my decision and less than a month later had the kit sitting in my garage after working with Justin and getting a pretty good deal. Fast forward to today. Got my parts unboxed and started some preliminary mock up. My intensions before all these ifs shenanigans started, was to send my axle out to be dropped and thus i had removed my axle without marking the centerline on the frame. A little digging and i found the centerline of the stock axle to be 20.594" from the end of the frame rails or 18.281" from the center of the shack le hole in the frame (care of the factory assembly manual). Here is a shot mocked in place... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
Well it didnt take long for me to stumble into my first head scratcher. Mocked into place and centered where the stock axle used to sit... Something doesnt seem right.
In front and behind the crossmember wher it welds to the outside of the frame i have about a consistent 5/32nds gap. On top of the frame raile i have between 3/8ths to almost 1/2" at the worst spot. All this coupled with the fact the frame rails pinch towards the front....leads me to believe the cross member was ment to be install further rearward. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
We put a Scott's coil over ifs on my buddies 46 Chevy. A really nice piece, I almost pulled the trigger on their air ride ifs. Ended up with a tci. If I was to do it over, mine would have rolled on Scott's. After seeing one in person, I was sold.

Re: Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
Anyone know if you could put a suspension like that into a 57 if you removed the front clip but left the engine in place?

Re: Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
Yep thats what Justin and I spoke about last night. So today I (crudely) took some 1/8th inch plate i had laying around the shop and mocked it up into place on both side. Should work out really well.
Chizz- did you offset the the plate so there was two weld joints? Or did you cut it 4" wide so it was slush with the crossmember?

Re: Scotts Hotrods IFS in my 51
6.70 firestone ww on black oe style wheels
donor suburban tbi 350/700r4/gas tank Explorer rear axle Suburban booster/ master/ pedal assy Freshen up interior New chrone and cream grille Couple misc body panels painted to match for now Some pinstriping Plan to patch a couple bad spots here and there and blend them back to match. (outside stays old and worn for a couple years) Ive spent alotta time over the years tearing stuff to the ground and never gotten to enjoy driving one. That is the main goal on this one... or so i keep telling myself as i tore this chassis to the ground. Body can come back off later. It will be super safe and really fresh and clean underneath. My build thread is in my sig below, it kinda shows some of my progression. Posted via Mobile Device
