tailgate panel polishing help!!

Has anybody figured out how to polish a tailgate wrap panel? I've got a 81 blazer that the panel looks like it has a haze on it. Tried several polishes with no luck. Saw guy here in town with one that looked almost like chrome and lost him in traffic. If anybody has done this some help would be great. Alot of people could probably use this beside me
Thanks!! Fasttoyz

Re: tailgate panel polishing help!!

I believe the panel you speak of is supposed to have that satin dull look to it originally. They weren't polished for a few reasons, DOT laws being one of them.

But,,,,if it's aluminum or stainless it would be a process like most anything else I polish. Alot of wet sanding. Depending on what you have to start with, might go as rough as 320, then 400-600-1000-1500-2000. Once at 2,000 this will give you a pretty darn shiny surface. If you want "chrome" shiny, I take it over to the buffing wheel and use a couple different compounds of rouge on it for a luster shine.

Re: tailgate panel polishing help!!

It is anodized so that coating had to be removed with drano or oven cleaner. Then the aluminum can be polished as normal

Re: tailgate panel polishing help!!

it doesn't last for ever but I got a nicer finish with some wd-40 and white sctoch brite! Not super shiny like polished aluminum but it definitely cleaned it up
