1970 c10 "fix it the right way" build
Quick history.... I have always loved this body style chevy when i was growing up. However, always found myself into 73 and up body style. I told myself when i was "grown" i would buy one!!!! Once i grew up i couldn't find a SWB 2wd Auto, all i could find were rusty busted worn out LWB 2WD 3 on the Tree. Finally found one on craigslist, the listing just said 1970 chevy truck for $800. Was i suprised when it was an all original 2wd SWB auto "not some auto added in the floor" but true auto on the column!!!! Here are a few pics when i got it. I did change the wheels so i could load it on the trailer
It does have some major rust issues that needs to be fixed, mainly on the pass floorboard. However, at this time MONEY is a problem that prevents the rust from being repaired. So crazy me decided to do a "youtube special" and try a roll on paint job. i guess to kinda cover up the worse spots. Somewhere in the middle of this crappy idea my sweet little 4 yr old ask me what i was doing. After explaining this to him on a 4yr old level, he then responded to me on a "grown man level" and says this... "DADDY, WHY DON'T YOU FIX IT THE RIGHT WAY?" And you know what? he was right!!!! So here we go with a FIX THE RIGHT WAY. |

Thanks "weever82" Lets just hope everything comes out "fairly" good with this build. Going to do my best to keep my little man FOCUSED on it, well as much as a 4 yr old can keep focused.
Here's a pic of 10 min into it. Here's a pic of 30 min after he took the headlamp bezel off |

This is going to be a great story by the time you finish the truck you can tell to your grand kids!
Have fun with it and lets see the progress pictures of the truck and son. I guess 30 minutes he was done since you didn't post any more!

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |

Re: 1970 c10 "fix it the right way" build
A few more pics of my little man that day. He tried his best to help me get the bumper off. And yes, i did get help from a 4yr old to get a bumper off that has been on since 1970!!!!!!!!!!! His only issue was all the rust falling off and he kept hitting his head. So he found a way to overcome this issue on his own, trust me when i say this was not his daddy's idea!!!

Welcome from Central Florida. You've got about 12 years or so to get that truck fixed right so you can hand junior the keys.

Re: 1970 c10 "fix it the right way" build
ok us cali's are just spoiled when it comes to rust, but at least its in the easy areas. as for the bumper i had to pull an original bumper off a 69. every single nut snapped off. i will say it was probably much easier that way than getting them to screw off. lost a few knuckles in the process though.

Re: 1970 c10 "fix it the right way" build
Spent alittle time today to access the damaged areas on the front end. Found a previous repair to the pass side fender, looked to be a very cheap and crappy repair. I think i will just replace them both with new ones. I called around and the best price i can find is my local keystone @ $125.00 each. Is this a fair price??? Here are a few pics for everyone

thats a good price on the fenders, dont know much about that brand, most run in the 130 range, great son and really good deal on the truck, well worth rebuilding
