Re: Flat black, satin black paint ideas!

Anyone else have any ideas? I am lookin for options like rims and everything tied together to make a flat black street rod or whatever, post pics of stuff you think might look good or how you did your flat black truck, I know I am pulling that chrome strip off cause it is held on by ten screws the po put in there and I don't like it anyways for the theme of this truck.

Re: Flat black, satin black paint ideas!

Here is my truck in progress. The paint is called hot rod flatz, from TCP Global. Just google Hot Rod Flatz and you should find it. It sprays on really well and is cheap. They have other flat colors than just black. I think I will try another color on my next project.

How much paint did it take to do the cab and bed (outside panels)?

Re: Flat black, satin black paint ideas!

Dont do FLAT black. Do "satin" black. Big difference. Flat black will fade, attract greasy hand prints and is harder to keep looking good. Satin black is what you want. Ive heard a lot of good things about the John Deere black. Thats probably what I would use because its used by a lot of high end vehicle restorers for trim and engine bays etc. Flat black also looks way too dull and looks too much like primer. Satin black looks like paint. You would have to see the difference for yourself side by side.

Re: Flat black, satin black paint ideas!

x2 on Satin black instead of Flat black. Here is an older pic of my '69 GTO in Plasticote T-2 "hot rod black". Basically flat black. My friends called it the Stealth Goat. Looked good for a couple years but faded unevenly and showed hand prints as stated above.

Re: Flat black, satin black paint ideas!

You can "flatten" or satin any paint, the ones sold as hot rod black and such are simply black with a flattening agent in it, you can purchase the "flattening" agent at any local paint shop, can be pre-mixed with tue paint or laid like clear..
