Well, I got a dash for my 91...

Only problem is, its a different color than the rest of the interior. My interior is some factory grey color and the new dash is blue. What flavor(s) SEM do I need? Id like to two tone it. Grey dash with black glove box door, trim plate, ect. Can someone list off the things I'll need?

Re: Well, I got a dash for my 91...

Just picked up a can of Landau black and light graphite. Looks like a close match. So what is prep for this stuff? Scrub and scrub and scrub wipe with alcohol and paint?

Most of the time the proper prep is in the directions on the can. (I’m not trying to be a ass, if it sounds like it). Read the directions. If not the web site should have a copy of the P-Sheet (Product Information Sheet). It's like the bible for paint products. It tells every thing about the product and how to use it.
Is this paint for plastic? If not you will need a adhesion promoter.

Re: Well, I got a dash for my 91...

I did one last spring, still not finished. I washed/cleaned with Purple stuff and green magic, lots of brushes etc, several times to be as clean as I could get it. Lots of compressed air to get it as prepared as possible, no suprises. Then used SEM plastic cleaner/prep, then adhesion promoter, shot the colors, and finished up with a matte clear, following the directions to the letter all the way. Very pleased with the results so far.

Re: Well, I got a dash for my 91...

I just got done scrubbing this thing for the 3rd time. Two rounds with dish soap and now once with simple green. And damn is the parking break release handle a pain to unclip.

Re: Well, I got a dash for my 91...

After rereading this thread i think i sould have added:
1.clean with soap and water. ( i use comet cleaner)
2.wipe the part (in one direction, right to left, or top to bottom, etc. Not in a circle patteren) with nonstatic plastic cleaner.
3.scuff the part with a gray scotch bright pad ( better to see what the adhesion promoter brand reccomends)
4.reclean with nonstatic plastic cleaner. just as in step#2
5.apply adhesion promoter as the directions say.( let it flash, etc)
6.clean by blowing it off and using a tack cloth.
7. apply color(paint) as directions say
8. apply clear as directions say

This is just a general way. Always go by what the products you are using say to do.

I type really slow, so i sometimes make my answers too short and sweet.
