C-Notch Help...

Could someone tell how would I go about measuring the metal for c-notch I will be bending 2x4 to make rounded notches. If someone could also tell me if it is ok to bend the 2x4 for notching the rear. I want it to lay rocker on a 24in. Wheel. This will be for a '66.
Thanks

C-notch?
Or step notch?

It's going to take a big step notch to lay rocker.

Step notch I guess , thought they were the same. Lol... I will be doing a "z" also. To get it down. Will it still need to be a big notch? How big of a notch are we talking?
Thanks

Measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame at your axle, lets assume that it is 24" for this example.

Measure from the ground to your frame under the cab where the frame will contact the ground, let's assume that is 14"

Now, figure what size tire you are going to run and divide the diameter in half, let's assume it is a 32" overall tire so that gives us 16". Now add 3" for axle clearance and you get 19".

If you subtract 14" from 24" you get that your frame is now 10" off the ground at the axle. You know you need 19" to clear the axle so the notch needs to be at least 9" tall.

I am assuming you have access to industrial equipment to be able to bend the 2x4??

Re: C-Notch Help...

Thanks so much for those calculations. You have one of the best builds by the way, I am in the process of reading your build thread. At what height should my frame be at when I take these measurements? I just about striped the frame and my tires that are on there are not all the same size. thanks again.

Re: C-Notch Help...

I do not currently have access to get them bent. I have to look around at some places. I want to go after the rounded look any other way to achieve this besides the 2x4?

Re: C-Notch Help...

There are companies that sell round notch kits like you want. It would be a lot cheaper to buy one of those kits as opposed to finding someone to bend the 2x4

Re: C-Notch Help...

I'm thinking I may need a 10" stepnotch to lay frame on 24" wheels. Could someone point me in the direction of a notch kit that is offered in that size? Looking for rounded stepnotch.

Thanks
