I finally located a good steering wheel for my wrecker but it's black and I need to make it maroon!

I did a search here and heard rustoleum works good but was wondering if anyone ever tried Krylon fushion? They have a burgandy color that might work.

What have you had success with?

I cleaned and repaired the cracks in mine with an industrial epoxy.Then I used steel wool to sand it down.I flushed it clean with either brake clean or carb clean(it's been 10 years).Then I painted it with Krylon.I wrapped the rim with a black leather cover and it's just starting to need a refresh.I doubt the rim would have stayed looking good for long with the constant hand contact.

I would use single stage urethane. Krylon Fusion would be better than Rustoleum and probably the best off the shelf paint. I'd sand it real thoroughly use a boding enhancer like Bull Dog.

I just got a chevelle wheel I'm going to try and fix. It's not in bad shape but I need to fix it right. Very minor surface cracks and paint it. Was thinking silver and red to match up to the truck. There is 2 very small cracks in it. I've even thought about just refinishing it and wait until they get worse. I couldn't get them to show up in the sunlight.
Got to find the the horn stuff also.

i have a 67-8 wheel i'm restoring need the same advise, i use krylon fusion on some parts on my nova project with great results sill looks good but there not a often touched part like a steering wheel.

Wouldn't urethane-based paint have a longer lifespan, in light of the constant touching?

I work with a guy who still has the '67 he bought new. He has had it repainted twice, and recently redid the interior. I asked about his steering wheel, because it is red and looks good. He told me that it has some "expensive" paint on it....so, I'm thinking urethane.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
