Question Adjusting Parking Brake on my 97 GMC 2500?

Hey guys, I could use a little help.

I'm trying to "tighten" the parking brake on my 97 extended cab. Everything works good and all, but it pushes down a bit too easy, and although it engages the brakes, I don't think it does quite enough. If I'm on a slope and my boat is hooked up, it will slide.

I figured it has to be an easy adjustment I just don't know where? Do I have to take off the rear wheels and go into the drums?

thanks in advance!

No ideas? Perhaps someone has a manual they could look in for me?

Re: Adjusting Parking Brake on my 97 GMC 2500?

1. Raise rear on jackstands.
2. apply parking brake 4 notches
3. On the outside of the frame on driver side is the adjuster.
Hold the cable from turning with locking pliers, then loosen the locknut and tighten the adjuster nut until a slight drag is felt when the rear wheels are turned.
5. Release parking brake pedal and make sure there’s no longer drag when wheels are turned.
6. Tighten the locknut and lower vehicle.

There is no locknut on mine in the pic. I have 2 rear ends with parking cables on them and nether had the locknut on them. Also, there are at least 2 different looking adjusters. They work the same but look different. So yours might not look like mine.

Re: Adjusting Parking Brake on my 97 GMC 2500?

Glad i could help. I have to admit, i looked in the Haynes manual to see if a 2500 adjusted the same as a 1500. I have a 1500. So i used their directions.
