Custom Bow Tie Hood Emblem!

My hood emblem was broke and looked horrible. So today my buddy and I decided to make a new insert. We made a template with cardboard from a 30 pack of Bud Light, transferred it onto some .100 alum., used some scotch brite with the drill press to add a machined look to it. Then painted it with some very cool metal flake transparent blue, very lightly so that you could still see the machined surface. Then put several coats of clear on it. It turned out really nice. It looks stock from a distance, but when you get close the light catches it and it really has a cool effect.

It fit pretty tight in the chrome bezel and I stuffed some small rubber grommets behind it so that they would help keep it in place once it was tightened down.

Re: Custom Bow Tie Hood Emblem!

That does look neat Its been making me think on doing something with mine like paint the outside of my bowtie red with a black center but i dont want to possibly make it look too black. But if the 454 trucks that were blacked out in the early 90s could do it, why cant i
