Anyone have their bumpers chromed?

I'm thinking of having my bumpers and grill chromed and was wondering if anyone on here has had theirs done so I can get a ball park figure. New bumpers are $144 at classic parts. I know they are of cheaper quality but if it's going to run me twice as much to have mine chromed guess which way I'll be going. The new grill is $250 at classic parts. My grill is almost perfect so I don't think it will cost more than that to have it chromed.

Re: Anyone have their bumpers chromed?

If you have your bumper chromed at Triple Plate in Spokane, I'm going to guess you will be looking at around $1000.00. And no that is not a typo. I'm just going by what I know guys have paid for smaller parts. It is stupid expensive to have plating done around here, and Triple Plate is about the only place anymore. They do, do very nice work though.

Have you considered gold plating? It may soon be cheaper than chrome, if it isn't already.

Holy sh3t! I guess new ones are the way to go. I just have to make sure not to bump into anything with them. Capt. i did take a gooseneck from a classic Schwinn in there about 1 years ago and it cost me like $50 back then. lol

Re: Anyone have their bumpers chromed?

In the Seattle area there are 3 or 4 chrome shops that do quality work and the 60-66 bumpers will run 400-500 each. Keep in mind that this is using your existing, real metal, non Chinese import junk and a properly prepared and properly chromed end item. You'll never know for sure how much you saved till the bad chrome starts to peel off your cheap, Chinese POS.
Just my opinion.

Too bad you're not closer to me...my friend (he does mostly industrial plating for the computer industry - racks, housings, etc.) just charges me tank time. So I end up being able to chrome most bumpers starting for $200. This works great for people who are looking to keep their OE bumpers. I can't match the prices of the overseas made and plated bumpers.

Re: Anyone have their bumpers chromed?

Ogden chrome in Ogden Utah, straightened mine and chromed it for $380. It looks very nice and noticeably better than the aftermarket one I have on the other truck, which is also way more flexible than original. They pick up around various cities in Idaho for free as well. The interesting thing was when the truck showed up, it was filled with plastic bumpers and not one metal one. The driver said they had to change with the times but still chrome as well.
