New Relocated Tank -

Had to share these pics. This is one of the several projects I've been working on during the blazing hot summer months.
I'm slowly getting my stepper ready for a cross-country haul and wanted a bigger relocated tank. Just didn't want a blazer tank for a variety of reason. This is a Tractor Supply toolbox with extended struts to allow full opening. The cell is a 19 gallon RCI Fuel cell, modified by extension to 28 gals. Mounted on shock mounts inside the toolbox.
All steel lines for rollover vent and supply. Hope you like it.

Re: New Relocated Tank -

That's so cool. You wouldn't expect a fuel tank to be inside the tool box. How much did it cost you to fab up if I may ask?

.
I found the almost new toolbox on CL for $150. The fuel cell was $200. The tank extension was another $150. Another $170 for the four mounting straps, steel plumbing, and shock mounts, hardware, etc.
.
So I guess the whole deal was about $520 plus the toolbox. I had designed several versions of the tank itself and had quotes from $500 - $700, so by using the RCI Cell, I got all the fitting, filler and 90 ohm sending unit. Saved a few bucks that way.
.
I'm going to finish hooking up the plumbing and pull the old tank A.S.A.P.
.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: New Relocated Tank -

Thanks for all to good comments gang. I wanted to get the Fuel Cell out of the weather. I'm even thinking about adding a second toolbox to use as a "trunk" for hauling travel bags and folding chairs..
.
On a side note, once I pull the stock tank, should more cab noise be a problem I should address? I have some nice 6 x 9's under the seat and I will move them back. The PO installed a carpeted tank cover, which I could reuse.
.
Again thanks and looking forward to JRMotorsports this Sat. in Mooresville, N.C.

Hey Toby, that drawing is from Solidworks? I use Solidworks at work. I also use Pro/e or Wildfire as PTC calls it now. I'm a mechanical designer by trade.

Solidworks 2012. I've been doing mechanical design for over 30 years. Used 2D AutoCad for almost 20 years. Wouldn't want to go back to 2D ever again.

Keep the faith - Experience is a great teacher. P.S. I lived in Mission Viejo for several years. Worked in RSM.

I hope you have the truck with u? I want to checkout the tank.
When u take the tank out of the cab you will have plenty of room for more speakers. Remind me I'll show u mine. Another thing u will have the gas opening to plug. I used a old plastic cap for years until I had it welded up this last repaint. Worked great.

Thumbs up Re: New Relocated Tank -

Sounds great Andy,
.
Yes, My stepper is my only ride. D/D and cruiser. I'll be driving it for sure. Ask me about some of my "road trips". I use it a lot. (Daytona Turkey Run for Thanksgiving) That's one reason I'm confident enough to plan a Cali. trip with a single axle camper. Call me foolish, but I'm mostly just old and dumb!!!
.
JointTech, I'm headed your way_ _ _ _
