Re: 250 inline 6

Got any history on the truck you can give us?
For all we know you may have just run out of gas.

Try pouring a little gas down the carb and put the air cleaner back on and try to start it. If it starts then you have just cut the possibilities in half.

Pull a spark plug wire and stick a bolt in the end of the wire and hold it close to a piece of metal and then have someone try to start it and see if you have a spark.

I would not get rid of any filters unless you are replacing them. Filters are your friends.

Cant tell from the picture if you need new vacuum hoses. Look at them and if they are split or have holes rubbed in them or are hard and crumbly or soft spongy and enlarged from being soaked in oil then replace them.

i took the fuel filter out and it started right up for a few seconds but then it shut off and threw small explosions with fire out from the carb

Re: 250 inline 6

Even with the vacuum lines routed wrong it should start, might be hard, and should idle . Might run rough or idle high but should run. I know when I started messing with mine the vacuum was all messed up and it still drove, didn't have much power but it ran down the highway at 65-70.

If your getting small explosions out of the carb, id say your timing is off.

Should be 10* IIRC

Look on your core support should have a vacuum diagram or use the one I posted in your other post, It should also list the timing.

Good Luck

Re: 250 inline 6

On the passenger side of the engine down by the crank pully is a metal tab, it will probably needed to be cleaned to be read( brake cleaner works well). Once that tab is clean and the markings are visible, losin the distributors mounting bolt, (just enough to where you can move the cap with some resistance) 1/2 or 9/16, call a buddy with a timing gun, give him/her beer, ask them nicely to set the timing. Also pull the vacuum to the distributor and plug the vacuum line.

I think I set mine to 10* but cant remember off hand.
