Re: 1964 Saginaw 3 speed transmission
Wow, I never knew people actually rebuilt a Saginaw 3-speed. I've always just thrown them away. lol
I'd say if you can find one that is "rebuilt" and it is documented with reciepts and pictures, etc - and it appears to be obviously cleaned up right and "rebuilt" - for $400...I'd say that'd be your best bet. I think I have a good one laying in my junk pile out back come to think of it. That's a good place for it, too...lol. |

If you have the tools and knowledge to rebuild it, you'll save $300. If your not versed on rebuilding them, Id suggest paying the $400 for a rebuild.

Re: 1964 Saginaw 3 speed transmission
For daily driving,, there is nothing wrong with a muncie or saginaw 3 speed if you want to stay w/a 3 speed manual. My 63 still has the original muncie 3 speed on the colum as did my 2 previous 63's and I have never had a problem with any of them. I never pulled anything or loaded anything that it couldn't handle. Its also easier to replace what you already have in terms of having to modify stuff. If the 3 speed manual will handle what you want it to do, id replace it with the same model and keep driving it. And for what its worth....the saginaw 3 speed has proven itself on many dirt tracks across the US.....it the prefered trans here in the south. So they can take alot of punishment.
