Tire size for 20s on a 70 2wd blazer?

I finally decided on the wheels for my project and even found a place with good prices...

I want to do 20 x10s out back and 20x 8.5s in the front. I saw bigcountryx's post with 255/40/20 fr and 295/40/20 rear and I want a little more sidewall...but not too much 45 series same width?

suggestions welcome!

Re: Tire size for 20s on a 70 2wd blazer?

I got 295's on mine in the rear and man are they a tight fit! I had to cut out the back portion of the fender and roll the lip to get the clearance I needed. I did push them out an inch and it's only an issue with all the air out though. Just make sure you get the back spacing right is really all I'm saying.

Remember though that the 295/40's will be taller than the 255/40's since it's a ratio. I like both tires to be the same overall height and would go with a 255/45 in the front to keep them close to the same overall diameter of around 29"

IMO though, I like the look of the 255/40's better even though it's a little shorter of a sidewall and would go with a 295/35 in the rear (Around 28" diameter)...but that's just me.

Re: Tire size for 20s on a 70 2wd blazer?

I have 22x9.5's all around...not too sure on the BS but I think it's a 15mm offset. It worked well for the fronts, but the rears needed a 1" spacer to work. The problem is that I don't have a stock rear end (PO Swapped it for some reason) and I don't know what it's out of so I'm sure my BS isn't the same as anyone else's with a stocker.

Re: Tire size for 20s on a 70 2wd blazer?

from looking at tirerack it looks like just going up to a 45 series gives me about an inch more in total diameter if i stay with the same width

255/40/20=28.1
255/45/20=29.1

295/40/20=29.5
295/45/20=30.5

Yup! 1" total equals about .5" more sidewall.
