I've read tons~I still have questions~tire/wheel

Just to start off, I did do a thread search for Tire and Wheel combos and information regarding sizes and back spacings and I still have questions. So here goes.

I have a '69 chevy c10 long bed. It has stock suspension up front and in the rear. The rear is springs and trailing arms. I really, really want the pro-street look with the fat tires in the rear. I am also building it to be a drag-truck, but it will be driven on the weekends when it is nice out as for it doesn't have a heater anymore.

Anyways, I found a few threads about how big of a rear tire you can go and one post says, "the biggest you can go is 15 or 15.5 inches wide on a 14 inch wide rim with about a 9.5 inch back spacing. Now I'm not wanting to go that wide, but I was just wondering about that if it's true or not."

Another thread about this topic had a post saying, "with tubs you can fit a 31x18.5 on 14" rims w/ 10bs.. wont touch a thing."
Now I am going to tub the bed as soon as I figure out what combo I want for the rear and as soon as they arrive after I order them.

My question is, I'm looking at a pair of 15x12 rims with a max of 6 1/2 inches of back spacing because that's the most B.S. they offer for the style of rim I am looking at and I'm wondering if that is going to be enough back spacing for my truck without sticking out past the bed side if any at all?

Also with the rear tire, I'm wondering if a 33'' x 12'' - 15'' will fit my desired rim size or maybe even a 29.5'' x 11.5'' - 15''? Also, will these tires Even fit under the truck?

Now for the fronts. I'm looking at getting a pair of 15x6 or 15x7. Either sizes don't really bother me, I'd just like something around that size in the front. With it being a drag-truck, I don't think running 15x8's up front would look very well in my opinion.

I'm wondering if say I get a 15x7, will 3 1/2 inch back spacing be to much or not enough?

Also, what would be a few different size tires that will fit a 15x6 rim or a 15x7 rim, as in height and width?

I really appriciate all the help I can get from you guys. You all have helped me so much already with other questions I've had in the past. Just wanted to thank you all again.

Well, I guess since there is no one helping me out with something some of you have already done. I suppose I can just go out and messure for rear rim sizes, but I'd still be stuck on what tire will fit and also what tire would fit and look the best in the front.

Hey I can't help much with the proper backspacing but I can tell you that a 33x12.50x15 will fit on stock rallys and only rub a slight amount on stock rear end inner wheel well when hitting really hard bumps. Hope it helps you some

Re: I've read tons~I still have questions~tire/wheel

So if a 33x12.50x15 fit a stock rally wheel, then I'm guessing that this same size tire will fit a 15x12 rim?

I don't know why it wouldn't fit on a wider rim. Here are a couple pics from the back of my truck.

Re: I've read tons~I still have questions~tire/wheel

dlh760 - Thanks for the photo's. I don't think I'm really going to have to worry about the tires rubbing on the inner fender wells beings I am going to tub it out. But from your photos, do your tires rub any at all on the inside of the bed side?

And also, do you think that with having the tires you have gives your truck a fatter stance in the back more like a pro-street look?

Re: I've read tons~I still have questions~tire/wheel

The last picture I put up was the inside of the bed / wheel well. It only rubs just slightly if I hit really hard bumps or dips. I've only had the truck for 2 months the previous owner put those tires on the rear. I plan on running them until they have to be replaced then replacing them with a smaller size so as to level the truck out more

I think I misread your post sorry about that. No they do not rub at all on the bed itself only on the inner wheel well / frame area

Alright. So a 33x12.5x15 will fit just fine and a 15x12 rim will fit fine as well?

As long as its got the proper backspacing and offset I don't see why it wouldn't fit. Especially if you are going to tub it

Re: I've read tons~I still have questions~tire/wheel

I just went out a messured with the tires I have on my truck now from the ground to the top of the bedside wheel area and it came out to be 30 inches. So if I put a 30 inch tall tire on the back with a 15 inch rim then that means I would have 7.5 inches of rubber from the inside of the tire to the outside of the tire, if I did my math right. Which means with the measurments I took for that, a 30 inch tall tire would fit under the truck.

Now I also measured from rim to top of tire with the tires I have on now and it's 4.5 inches. So with doing my math problem of 15 inches(rim) + 4.5 inches + 4.5 inches, that would mean I am running a 24 inch tall tire now.

So with a 24 inch tall tire on my truck now and that makes it out to be 30 inches from the ground to the top of the bedside wheel area, then if I was to put a 30 inch tall tire on, that would make it to be 33 inches from ground to bedside. I came up with the answer of 33 inches because the tires I have now are 4.5 inches from ground to rim and with a 30 inch tire that would be 7.5 inches from ground to rim. That's a 3 inch difference for top and bottom which is 6 inch difference for a 24 inch to a 30 inch tall tire.

So all in all, I came to a conclusion that if i put a 30 inch tall tire on that would make the top of my bedside wheel area 33 inches off the ground. Which means a 30 inch tall tire will fit under the truck.

Sorry for all the confusion if there is any. I confused myself a lot while typing this. Hope someone can understand what all I'm saying.
