Help with fuel lines.
I am trying to figure out what my options are for fuel lines besides rubber. I recently put in a carbed 350 in my truck. My existing fuel lines are 3/8 supply and 1/4 return. I am wanting to continue with metal lines up to my pressure regulator for the supply and return. Then from the output of the regulator to the carb as well. I have gone to the local parts stores such as Autozone/Pepboys but they are no help. Can I use brake line for fuel line? If so what do I do for fittings? I found copper fittings over at Lowes but I am not sure if they would work. I believe the supply and return on the regulator are 3/8 and the ones on the existing supply and return are 3/8 and 1/4. I also seen the braided hose over at Pepboys, but essentially are they just rubber hoses with metal brading for looks? The price on that stuff is pretty expensive as well. Any input would help. This a picture of the fitting from Lowes. Would brake line fit on this type of fitting?

Re: Help with fuel lines.
I think carbs need about 6psi.
Brake lines are flared differently then other flares. If you want to run hard lines you will need to get a roll of material and a flaring tool. I highly suggest you talk to the folks at Summit. Something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-65145/ might be of help. I personally have used braided hose for high pressure supply line from sump to engine on a 94 camaro I sold. Used an external fuel pump, sumped the tank and put a gauge block in line with a cut off valve also. Braided hose is a ***** to learn to work with. But it's easier then learning to bend and flare line in my opinion. I have done similar to what you want to do in adapting AN fittings to common hardware. PM me cause I don't want to bore others with details. |
