LS3 Conversion - 67 C10

Alright gentlemen and all others. I was saving to do this project by 2013 mid-spring but seemingly lost compression in the #3 & 6 cylinder on my SB400 on my way to work last month. Block crack

My granddad and I had done that engine back in 1997, it had served me faithfully, but was due to die soon; it was my highschool engine and served me well even under the brut force of a 16 year old foot.

Alright, purchased an LS376/480hp connect & cruise engine from PacePerformance with a few accessories.

Looking at two issues thus far... my fuel (tank) and my gauge set up. Any recommendations?

Right now running with a rear fill, rear-mounted tank I bought from LMC truck (21 gal) about 7 yrs old. Would like to continue to use it but don't know if there is a kit out there to convert to an internal pump or external pump that wont quit on me every 15-20k miles and wont cost what a new fuel cell will cost

And the gauges... thinking about www.dakotadigital.com or a www. http://boeseengineering.com setup, see website (67-72) dash clusters.

HELP ME OUT!

Welcome fellow aviator and helo bubba! Good looking truck, you'll like the swap. You'll have to make the trip to Pensacola when you get it completed.

Sweet truck! I used a Boyd Welding tank with an external pump, but you can get it with a Aeromotive Stealth in-tank pump for $648. http://www.boydwelding.com/ Keep us informed on your progress!

Or if you know a machinist, you could have one machined similar to this.

Re: LS3 Conversion - 67 C10

Any LS3 convertors out there with fuel system ideas? External Pump

I want to go with an Aeromotive A1000 external fuel pump with A1000/6 regulator; has anyone had any problems going with an external pump? Did you have any problems with the install? TIPs?

Mount them as close to the fuel tank as possible. These style pumps are better at pushing than pulling. I have also heard that it will increase the life of the pump.

I'm interested to see the info that comes up here as I'd like to replace my 454 with an LS engine. I'm not an Army aviator but I am an Army mechanic.

I really like the look and the gauges themselves!!! Don't have a machinist in mind right now. Plus not ready to hit the interior yet, but would like more info on those gauges and panel!

Re: LS3 Conversion - 67 C10

Installed engine this morning along with Flywheel in preparation for the transmission (Following 2pm beer call). The BRP motor mounts were perfect, no issues, installing transmission and starting ECU hooks this afternoon.

Anyone know what the dimensions are for the driveshaft changes...(o/a figures) will be measuring but would like to have a good idea before doing mine

First picture is rear of LS second pic is the Old SB400

Beautiful truck and very nice engine choice. We need more pics of your truck. I'm subscribed for this one, an ls engine will definitely be my next motor once I'm tired of my BBC.

Re: LS3 Conversion - 67 C10

Just received my order from Boese Engineering! Although, I'm about 2 weeks away from installing these "pretty ladies" its nice to see packages, especially after debating which to go with and spending $$$....

Very happy with the look. Cant wait to max that TACH out!

Gauges are American Muscle (Autometer) TACH & SPEED both 5' and all others 2 1/16' (Oil, Water, Volts, Fuel)

Re: LS3 Conversion - 67 C10

Engine & Transmission are in and we've started hooking up the ECU. 1) Noticed the oil pressure sensor (not sender) has no adapter; most other sensors had an adapter.... will have to track that down.

Transmission has no Fill Tube/Dipstick - ordered a LOKAR firewall mounted tube from summit. As far as cooling lines, I ordered some for a 73-82 pre-bent 700R4. I haven't attached them yet but I can't imagine too much more bending for fitment.

Will probably mount the fuse box to the passenger side fender and ECU to the firewall.

Power steering. The LS3 has a GEN II type system with external reservoir the steering box on my truck is of course different. Without going to the local tractor place to custom make hydraulic hoses I ordered a kit from summit as well; billet specialties #77900 kit. Summit makes a Kit I'd prefer to have ordered #SUM-G3160 but are out of stock.

Going to install a bypass for the heater until I recoup the money spent from the install and invest in a GEN IV vintage air system
