another tire question
i finally got to take my truck to the strip last night and the old girl done allright considering i was onn street tires, 7,82 at 85.69 mph, now ineed some traction, anybody know whats the best tire combo, drag radials for a stock suspension 65 with factory tubs? right now i am running a 255/70/17 toyo proxy all the way around but it was blowing the tires off. i will probably go back to 15 inch wheels because i want to run at least a 29 inch tall tire and theres not anything in the 17 range, or at least that i can find. thanks for the help.

Re: another tire question
Pretty impressive. The mickey and hoosier drag radials are pretty awesome.

Re: another tire question
thanks kevin, love your truck by the way and the pass time video is awesome. ithink i have decided to go with a 275/60/15 on a 8 inch ralley and just swap them out for dragstrip use. from what i have read they are arond 28 inches tall and what i am running now is 29 1/2, so it will even help with the gearing since i am running 373 gears now it might help a little, dropping a 1 1/2 i know not much but every little bit helps.

Re: another tire question
What rpm were you crossing the traps?
What gear ratio is in the rear? Using a 28" or 29" drag radial might actually be slower than a 26" the effective gearing change between the 26" and 28" is pretty big. Similar to a 3.73 to a 4.10.. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: another tire question
thanks alot, i relly like yours as well.
just had changed into drive when i went through the traps, i am running 373 gears and a 29 inch tall tire right now, i just ordered a set of 275/60/15 drag radials which have a advertised height of 28 inch on 8 inch rim, i am shifting at 6000. hoping with the drag radials i can get on the converter more ,maybe that will help some too.havent done alot of drag racing in a long time kinda forgot what little i knew. read all the way through your build a couple nights ago, all i can say is awesome.thanks for the reply always open to suggestions.

Re: another tire question
I've been running MT ET Street Radials on my truck. They are plenty sticky for my setup. 275/60/15. Try em, and you'll never go back to anything else for street/strip.
Don't bother with the Nitto DRs....useless.

Re: another tire question
Do you only run 1/8 mile?
If so you would most likely go faster on the 275/50 being a 26" tall tire. Like mentioned the change from the 28" to a 26" would be like putting a 4.10 gear in your truck. Either way you will probably be going faster than what you were. If the GY DR's are anything like the MT DR's they need a pretty good burn out. I hit the tires, shift in to high right away, bring it to about 5,500-6,000 and hold it there and count to 4, release the line lock and roll out half throttle till they grab and the truck lunges forward. Counting to 3 is not enough most of the time, but 4 seems to be the magic count. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: another tire question
I agree with what Super73 said regarding a 28 vs 26 inch tire.
My truck responded to the 28" tire a lot better than the 26" tire though, because it loaded the engine harder, lighting the turbo faster.

Re: another tire question
I have heard the Goodyears work good . I think they never got a chance when the new style M/T's came out .

Re: another tire question
just a update on the goodyears, finally did get to go to the strip and see what they would do.consdering the track was in poor, poor shape the tires almost held once and it went 7.81at 84.72 my 60 foot just bearly dropped from a 1.706 to 1.648 that was at 22 psi. now the trouble side showed up, trans started slipping in drive so now i guess i get to build a tranny.oh well i was getting bored anyway lol.
