Cool Re: Lifter tick help

Use a mechanic's stethescope or a long shaft screwdriver with the handle against your ear (really old school) if you don't have one.

Re: Lifter tick help

The old school adjusting always works for me. Take out slack till it slaps then toghten till it don't then go 1/2 turn. If another rocker is ticking where your working but you can't tell push down on them one by one till you find the loose one wich will quiet up when pressed.

Be sure that all exhaust gaskets are sealed good and the intake has no leak at the heat riser runners or egr if you still have it.

Also comp cams are known to be kinda noisy since the ramp profiles are very fast. This will sound like quiet knocks or lugging. Claclaclaclaclaclaclaclaclacla.....

Thx Insidious ,

Yea ,Ireally need to check & make sure header bolts are tight.

That interesting about comp cams > dont understand how the ramp profiles would make noise . Of course there are a lot of things Idont understand .

I just put on copper gaskets on my cheap hedman long tubes when Iput engine back together . You mentioned graphite > maybe copper being pretty rigid dont seal so good .

The sound Ihear does sound like a quiet knock come to think of it ?

Re: Lifter tick help

also check header gaskets for leaks, if you have headers or loose header bolts they can sound exactly like a lifter ticking!!!
