Radiator choices

The next step for me is replacing the old stock radiator on our 55 second series. Are there any replacements that will fit from other cars that I might find on the cheap? We dont have a ton of cash to dump into a nice aluminum at the time being.

Re: Radiator choices

Took mine to a radiator shop and they said it would be 400-500 to build another one. Thought there might be a similar sized one from a different year/model car that would work

Re: Radiator choices

55-59 big truck radiators will bolt in and farmers usually took care of their work trucks. And you get 33% more cooling capacity. I got mine just for pulling it out of the truck that was going to be scrapped.

Re: Radiator choices

Just went through the same thing. I ended up putting a four-core back in the original radiator frame and polished the brass top. It looks great...but cost $600 when all said and done. I tried to see if the ones in the LMC catalog and the Truck Shop catalog were copper and I could not get a response for days. There catalogs also had different dimensions and looked different than mine from the photo diagrams I saw. So I wasn't convinced they would be a true bolt on to the existing core support. Finally gave up and went with a recore. One of them called me back later and said they have copper. It would have been a couple hundred less. Copper is the way to go IMO because copper is more efficient and can be repaired. The recore will add varied vertical tubes which is apparently better than stock. I am happy with what i did and I really like the polished brass look. It took about a four days at a local shop to recore the stock radiator.

@spinned
If I can have mine rebuilt, that would be the route I will take. I like the original look, probably wont be anything shiny on this truck when we get done with it.

Re: Radiator choices

If that doesn't work out for ya, Speedway Motors has brass rads that you can order by dimensions and inlet/outlet location.
And, best part is, you can actually talk to someone on the phone who is knowledgeable.
